It was only two days ago that I had my first Vespa excursion to Annecy. Then already I decided that I would check out other places around Lac d´Annecy next time. As it turned out it was a very good idea and I enjoyed the day around the lake a lot.

Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard
Bernard of Menthon (St Bernard) was born in the castle at the beginning of the 11th century. He´s the founder of the hospice at the Great St. Bernard Pass and abbeys in the high mountains. He also gave the name to the famous Swiss dog of the Alps, originally bred for rescue. The earliest documents about the St. Bernard breed are from monks at the hospice at the Great St. Bernard Pass from the 18th century, but there are paintings and drawings of the dog dating much earlier.
The castle is still owned by the Menthon family.
